Flocked or Fleeced?

“For you were like sheep being led astray, but you have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls (2 Peter 2:25).”

The shepherds were faithfully watching over their flock at night when a great light appeared as the angel of the Lord announced to them the Lord’s birth. Unlike that night, countless people live in this world like sheep without a shepherd. God sent His Son that all people might have a shepherd to guide and protect their lives.

The shepherds found Jesus lying in a feeding trough used as a makeshift crib. Born in Bethlehem, which means “house of bread,” Jesus is our bread of life. We must consume Him to live long and prosperous lives. As we abide in Him and chew on His words, we will grow and learn wisdom to sustain us. He will navigate our paths in this world with its confusion and pitfalls.

The angels directed the shepherds to find Jesus amid darkness, and they sought Him immediately. We should do the same in all our times, but most especially when we are without light. We must find Him by faith, believing that as we draw near to Him, He will rescue us. Today heaven is sending you messengers to help you. Will you seek Jesus and find grace to help you in your time of need?
