Remain in my love… so that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be complete. My commandment is this - to love one another just as I have loved you (John 15: 9-12).
Feelings can be fickle! If your emotions drive your choices in life, sin and pain, await you down the road. It is only a matter of time before you will crash. Righteous decisions based on what you willand not on what you feelbuild a life of joy.
Connection to Jesus is essential in maintaining joy in life. Remain in Jesus.
Remain in his love. Remain in his words. If you make these three things a priority in your life, your joy will be complete. When you sense you're lacking joy allow these three things to be your guide in knowing why. Where have you disconnected with Jesus? Where have you failed to come to him as a child knowing he unconditionally loves you? What word have you neglected that does not line up with your present emotion?
Emotions are ours to enjoy. They make great servants but unwise bosses. When we fail to remain in the river of God’s love our emotions will control us. Impatience, intolerance, overeating, isolation, grumpiness, and self-pity are all signs something is off with us. When we abandon God’s word that Jesus is for us and he loves us in the present moment our joy is incomplete.
Stay rooted in the love of Christ and love one another just as he loves you. Ask the Father for things you desire that align with the word within you. His provision will fill you with joy. Learn to make light of your emotions for they come and go. When your feelings drive you down a hurtful path, by your will take the wheel and turn around on the path of righteousness.
