Like A Tree

But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the loving-kindness of God forever and ever (Ps. 52:8).

Someone sits in the shade today because of the sheltering arms of a tree. We can learn a lot from a tree. Its skyward branches receive from heaven. Its roots planted firmly in the earth draw waters from a secret place. And its trunk, the middle, is its being and strength.

We who live in Christ have our home in heaven while our present bodies live on earth. We are indeed between heaven and earth. On earth, we draw our strength from the secret place of love, communion and prayer. We take our earthly cares and duties and lift them to heaven for an exchange of bringing the light and wisdom of heaven down to earth. And in this way of life, we become strong in the Lord.

There is a line drawn between natural life and death, but it is what is in the middle that counts the most. Root your life in the love of Christ and lift your head to heaven to redeem the time of which you have precious little to squander. Be a tree for someone who needs a covering from the heat and a place to lean on to gain strength from your strength. Live an eternal life by bringing heaven to earth and earth to heaven in the circle of God’s love.
