“We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored (1 Cor. 4:10)!”
Proverbs speaks of foolishness being bound up in the heart of a child. Unfortunately, many adults grow up in this world without proper discipline and in short continue to “act the fool.” The Hebrew language gives us a wide variety of definitions for foolish people. One thing is sure a fool does not travel the highway of holiness, which leads to God’s highest purposes and blessings in this life and the life hereafter.
The simple fool opens his mind up to anything. He does things without considering the consequences of his actions. This type of person cannot see further than his nose and needs constant oversight and correction. A dumb fool believes that his way of thinking is right and gets offended when wisdom offers him proper instruction. Mindless, the dumb fool spouts off at the mouth because he has a short temper. The fleshly fool hates correction of any kind from authority figures especially parents. She likes to do things that bring her immediate pleasure regardless of the price she will pay later. The mocking fool’s face communicates the impudence and disrespect she has in her heart toward all authorities, including parents, the police, spiritual leaders, and God. The mocking fool will hate you if you attempt to correct her. The persistent fool is the most dangerous of all. He says in his heart there is no God. There are many people in the church today that confess they believe in God, but their actions prove otherwise. If you know God in your heart, you will love and obey him.
Leave the presence of a fool lest you become like him. Put yourself under the word of God, which brings correction and guidance. Repent and realign yourself to God’s destiny for your life. Become a fool for Jesus. A disciple of Christ appears foolish to the world because his or her desires are so unlike the world. Current culture will not influence a true believer. His focus remains on God's Kingdom first and foremost.
