Take the Highway

It will be named the Highway of Holiness. Evil-minded people will never travel on it. It will be only for those who walk in God’s ways; fools will never walk there (Is. 35:8).

As a kid when summer rolled around, I liked to pick blackberries. I’d take a pig path to find them growing wild and free in the woods across from my house. It’s surprising the stuff I saw in those woods following these little side trails. Things like old bottles, abandon wells mostly junk like beat up tires. People had made these aimless paths in the woods that often led to nothing.

The path of our human desires if not firmly held in Christ will lead us to nothing. God speaks of a highway of holiness that he gives to his people. Its design reflects God’s wishes for those who travel on it. Jesus is on this high road, and he commands all of us to follow him on it. Unlike a pig path formed by vain desires, the Highway of Holiness leads us to a fulfilled and fruitful life.

All of us are on a journey leading us somewhere. For those who are Christ -minded this journey will lead to heaven on earth as well as the heaven to come after death. We follow Jesus on the road less traveled because most people do not choose to live a life led by the Holy Spirit. They are pig-headed and decide to be influenced by their lust for things and relationships that ultimately can never supply them with steadfast love and contentment.

The way of holiness or a pig path may we choose wisely.
