…and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor (Ephesians 5:2 KJV).
The ability to smell is a blessing from God. It calms us, warns us, and can awaken us from a faint. Smell is the only sense that requires breathing. The Hebrew word for spirit, breath, and smell are all the same. Our sense of smell gives us a quick understanding of what is in the air more than our vision, hearing, or touch. It comforts our soul and influences our moods. The power of odor both draws and repels us.
Jesus, our Messiah, has a fragrance that is irresistible to those that love Him. The Hebrew word for anoint is “mashach” meaning to smear with oil and closely aligns with the Hebrew word “Mashiach” for Messiah, the Anointed One! The Greek word for Anointed is Christos our word for Christ. Jesus anoints us, and to all that intimately love and draw to Him, He imparts His fragrance.
Do people smell Jesus on you? Everyone looking for Jesus will draw to you. And you in return will take them to the source of your anointing which is Jesus the Christ. The anointing of Christ smears on you as you by faith place your head upon His chest, and lean your body upon His everlasting arms. His scent though not discernible to your natural senses will rub off on you.
Be a living sacrifice conformed to His image and receive this sweet smelling aroma of Christ. Put your selfish and often counterproductive and destructive desires on the altar. How do you smell dear one? Does your life emit an odor of death to the flesh and yet at the same time life and peace in the spirit? Yes, you are set apart consecrated to God's purposes. Only through the anointing will you accomplish the good works the Father prepared for you before He formed you in your mother's womb. Present yourself as a living sacrifice to God. Live for Christ as He lives for you and enjoy the sweet smell of success.
