Confession Is Good for the Soul

If you hide your sins, you will not succeed. If you confess and reject them, you will receive mercy.

Proverbs 28:13

Bacteria, the stuff that makes our bodies sick, thrives best in dark places. Ultraviolent light penetrating the walls of germs can stop them from reproducing. When bacteria can no longer reproduce, they cease to live.

Our hearts are containers either for light or darkness. In Christ, our hearts can be clean and free from radicals that pollute our thinking and behavior. Christ is the light of the world and in His light we have light. As we bring dark thoughts and fear into the light, we experience a change of direction.

Confession is good for the soul. If people expose the hurtful things they are contemplating, tragedies may never materialize. Suicidal thoughts and feelings when shared with trusted friends often go away. Secret sin and hidden idols lose their power over us when brought to the light.

Do not allow dark thoughts to reproduce in your mind. Jettison pride and embarrassment and confess your sins to God and then reject their power over you. Make a decision to “part company” with these hidden idols. Call out on the name of Jesus Christ to help you overcome. Go to someone who you can trust for help, a believer in Christ who is walking in God’s love and power. Come into the light and you will see the truth that sets you free.
